Road to a Green Card

Road to a Green Card

Road to a Green Card

If you would like to obtain a green card, there is a particular path you will need to follow. It is important to have the right legal guidance on your journey down the road to a green card. Contact a North Carolina immigration lawyer today.

1. Schedule Consultation

First, you need to learn about the process and if you qualify. You need to learn about the benefits of being a legal permanent resident and other important information. This can help to solidify your decision to pursue a green card and begin the process.

2. Determine Eligibility

Our attorney will review your situation and assess whether you meet the eligibility requirements for a legal permanent residency. These requirements may include having a sponsor, sponsoring yourself, and whether or not you are admissible to the United States as a green card holder.

3. Open Case with Vestal Immigration Law

If you are eligible and decide to move forward, we can officially represent you during this process. We will go over all of the details of our legal fee agreement with you so that there are never costs or fees in which you are not prepared. We will then begin working on your behalf to apply for your green card.

4. Gather Documents and Evidence

Once our legal fee agreement is in place, you will remove our new client “homework” folder. This folder includes our personalized step-by-step requirements. You will never worry about where your case is in the process at our office.

5. Attorney and Team Prepares Your Case

Once the “homework” folder is returned to us, we start working on your case. If we need more information or other clarifications, we will reach out to you.

6. Case is Filed with Correct Government Agency

After our final review with you, we will file your case with the correct government agency and location. There are many ways to obtain legal permanent residency, and we are here to track of developments once the filing is submitted.

7. Attend a Biometrics Appointment & Get a Medical Exam

Depending on which process you qualify for and where you are in the world, you may be required to attend a biometrics appointment. At this appointment, you will submit your fingerprints and have your photograph taken. Later, once you receive your interview notice or appointment letter, you will be required to have a completed medical exam by a U.S. civil surgeon. We are here to help you prepare!

8. Be Patient

Processing your case takes time for the government, but it is worth the wait. It may take several months before you receive your receipt notices, biometrics notice, and sometimes up to a year or more to have your immigration interview either in the United States or a U.S. consulate abroad. We monitor all of the cases, all over the world, every day.

9. Attend Interview

When it is time for your interview, we will schedule an appointment with you to help you prepare and know what to expect. Our attorney attends interviews with her clients in the U.S. and coordinates pre-interview appointments with her clients regardless of time zone around the world.

10. APPROVAL

Green cards come to our mailbox if you are in the United States. If you are outside of the United States, you will enter with your new stamp in your foreign passport. You will receive your green card after your arrival in most cases.
